Killer Feeling

This was for another jam with my artists in crime Liquid and Skills. The subject was mine to pick this time. I loved Killer Instinct back in my Super Nintendo days, and the videos for the new one have me hyped to see what they come up with all these years later. They haven't previewed Fulgore yet, my favorite character, so why no draw him to get my fix? And seeing some other renditions is icing on the cake.

C-C-C-C-Combo Breakerrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!

Officer Luci

This was inspired by a new acquaintance that told me she wanted to be a police office in the future. It turned out more cartoony than my usual stuff, but I winded up being happier with it like this.

She'll Get Mad if I Put Her Name Here

I had a request from a friend of mine to draw her as a super hero. She's short and feisty, that makes Wolverine the obvious choice here. I threw her car and cigarettes in for that personal touch, as well as here custom cell phone holder. You can't hide a five inch phone in there...

It's a Slow Process, But I Ain't Got Nothing But Time

I've been of fan of Mario Chavez for a while now, and I'm always impressed by his use of Copic markers for his commissions. He seems to only use cool and warm grays to achieve an entire range of tones, good enough to fool your eyes into seeing colors that aren't really there. I too only use these grays (six dollar markers add up fast!) for my pics, so I'm trying to channel that style a little here.

I also thought it'd be cool to see the different stages my stuff goes through before it hits the interwebz, so here's the pencils and inks.

If you're feeling my style, my rates are cheap haha!

Peace!!

Thanos

This pic all started because I wanted to use my markers and my white gel pen on something.  The only Copics I own at the moment are warm and cool grays  but they're so versatile, and especially on a color scheme like this, and Thanos' eyes being just white specks most of the time lend themselves well to the gel pen.

Peace!

Zonin' Like a Ronin

It's been a long Spring for The Graphitist.  You wouldn't know it by reading this blog (haha) but I've actually kept pretty busy on the art side of things. One big focus was knowing me and the rest of the FR crew would be attending Heroes Con in Charlotte.  It's been almost two weeks since I returned, and I have a lot of thoughts on it (upcoming in a new post,) but for tonight I'm reflecting on the frame of mind I've been in lately.

I had initially been up and down my first week back. Now, for reasons I have yet to figure out, I have been tuning in a lot more than usual when I'm on the pad.  More often than not after a day of work I skip the traffic and go to a Starbucks to get some drawing time in, and my mind has been a lot...emptier for lack of a better word.  I still take my breaks, check my phone, and watch the people, but when a pen is in my hand I just seem to zone out and focus more than usual.  The pressure of creating something perfect and the inevitable thoughts of where this hobby of mine will take me have temporarily disappeared.  I'm taking that as a good thing.

The pic above is from a few days ago, and, while it's not any better technically than what I've been drawing, it felt better when it was completed. I'm taking that as a good thing too...

Peace!

Black Widow

This is a post-job sketch I did recently.  Much like Natasha I want to move on from my past, and into a future of constant updates.

Hulk!

So it's official, I have to draw the Hulk every time I watch the Avengers.  Marvel really hit a home run with that one.  With all of their origins already out of the way in their solo movies, they can get right into the action.  And we all showed up for the Hulk more than anything right?

Vega from Street Fighter is one of may favorite characters to draw.  It all stems back from the original anime movie, specifically the scene where he fights Chun Li, he just seemed so deadly there.

Peace!

Hard At It?

It's been a long, I shouldn't have left you...

For real though, it's been forever since I last posted something, it's crazy to me. Even crazier though is that I've still been steadily drawing. Art, unfortunately, isn't my 9 to 5; my real job sends me all over the country for 60+ hour weeks, and sometimes I just get lazy about the actual posting. I could go on with this, but really, to paraphrase a great quote, "Make drawings, not excuses."

This is a work in progress, done in between stints of work and Coronas, and really serves as something to test my new Copic greys on (check back tomorrow??).

Peace!
