Renaissance

I just can't stay away from those Ninja Turtles...

As much as I've drawn them throughout my life, it's fitting that Leo was the subject.  I wanted to do something all digital without the familiar comfort of a pencil and pen in my hand, and I wanted to color it and really just experiment with taking a piece further than my usual sketches.

Zonin' Like a Ronin

It's been a long Spring for The Graphitist.  You wouldn't know it by reading this blog (haha) but I've actually kept pretty busy on the art side of things. One big focus was knowing me and the rest of the FR crew would be attending Heroes Con in Charlotte.  It's been almost two weeks since I returned, and I have a lot of thoughts on it (upcoming in a new post,) but for tonight I'm reflecting on the frame of mind I've been in lately.  

I had initially been up and down my first week back. Now, for reasons I have yet to figure out, I have been tuning in a lot more than usual when I'm on the pad.  More often than not after a day of work I skip the traffic and go to a Starbucks to get some drawing time in, and my mind has been a lot...emptier for lack of a better word.  I still take my breaks, check my phone, and watch the people, but when a pen is in my hand I just seem to zone out and focus more than usual.  The pressure of creating something perfect and the inevitable thoughts of where this hobby of mine will take me have temporarily disappeared.  I'm taking that as a good thing.

The pic above is from a few days ago, and, while it's not any better technically than what I've been drawing, it felt better when it was completed. I'm taking that as a good thing too...

Boredom Creates..

I started this sketch during a graduation ceremony a few weeks ago in my little Moleskine sketchbook, and have been inking it here and there since, usually when I haven't been feeling other drawings I'm working on.

This is a post-job sketch I did recently.  Much like Natasha I want to move on from my past, and into a future of constant updates.

...but the process may get me yet.

I've been working on an awesome comic project recently, and the deadline is quickly coming up over the horizon.  My time lately has been devoted towards that, hence the lack of fresh Graphiti.    But just to prove I'm still exercising the right brain, here's some layouts from the current page.

I'd love to chat more, but like Biggie said, I got a story to tell.

Champloo Jam

What a fun piece to draw! This was for a jam with some fellow artists, all orchestrated by the cuz (check out his piece here and to link to the rest) with some great results! I will definitely be putting more time in on this one and give it a proper scan soon.
